Two Montreal designers stand out at the Etsy Design Awards
The B3 entryway bench from Montreal company UsetCoutumes is a finalist for the 2022 Etsy Design Awards.
Montrealers are full of talent and the Etsy Design Awards, a global handmade design competition, confirms it. Two designers from the metropolis have been named among the 100 finalists of the famous competition.
Us et Coutumes, specializing in functional furniture for small living spaces, is nominated in the “Furniture” category for its bench practical B3 entry door in bright colors and made of quality ash.
Compact and equipped with adjustable shelves and/or shoe racks, it is customizable not only in its size and length, but also in the type of wood and the colors of the legs. Its creator, Vincent Cloutier, describes his works as “a mixture of heritage in a contemporary envelope”.
Another Montreal company nominated for the Etsy Design Awards: Pompon Design, in the “Children” category for its wool shrimp mobile. Designer Jen Ham opened her Etsy shop in 2007 to sell her one-of-a-kind accessories and artwork, but after her niece was born she turned to toy making and never stopped making toys. do.
Jen strives to create objects that brighten the lives of children and adults, using recycled materials. She says she designed her mobile with shellfish to inspire “future little foodies”.

Four other Canadians are also among the finalists at the Etsy Design Awards. Leah Yard Designs (Vancouver) for her jewelry and in particular a black onyx ring, Maria Ida Designs (Vancouver) for her original vases, Chenuz Atelier (Kelowna) for an art deco vase, and Fern and Moon for a long slit skirt designed for weddings.
After partnering with Drew Barrymore in 2020, Etsy is tapping into The Expert and its community of world-renowned designers – including Jenna Lyons, Brigette Romanek, Jake Arnold and more – to select this year's winners, at alongside Etsy Trend Expert Dayna Isom Johnson.
The public is also invited to vote from June 14 to 21 for their favorite craftsman. To register your vote, all you have to do is add the finalist items to your favorites list on the Etsy website.
At the end of the competition, the most ingenious crafter – all categories combined – will win the grand prize of US$20,000 (equivalent to C$26,000). The public's choice will win US$5,000 (C$6,500). Ten other designers will win prizes of US$1,000 (C$1,300) in each category, i.e. jewelry, vintage, clothing, art, “stationery and party accessories”, pets, “home and lifestyle”, wedding, children and “bags, accessories and shoes”.
Winners will be announced at the end of July.
