Valérie Plante in mourning
The Mayor of Montreal, Valérie Plante.
Montreal Mayor Valérie Plante took to Instagram to announce the death of her father. The man’s health had become fragile over the past year, indicated the mayor.
The latter evoked the joie de vivre that characterized him, the trips to Abitibi aboard the “l’ bus/general store” from her dad, when she was a child.
“A father is a daughter’s first love. Mine has always believed in me. He showed me that you can dream and achieve your goals when you put your heart to work,” said Valérie Plante.

The mayor remembered her beginnings in politics, a period during which she was able to count on her father to accompany her during door-to-door sessions. A presence well appreciated by the citizens, which guaranteed him “instant success”.
Valérie Plante notably described a man “who started at the bottom of the ladder, who rolled over his hump through sweat and sacrifices”.
“Now begins the long apprenticeship to keep moving forward, laughing and crying, without him in our lives. I love you dad,” said the mayor.
As of this writing, the City has not responded to Metro's request to know if the mayor's duties would be affected by the news at course of the next few days.
