Young Quebecers want to work healthy!
The health sector is struggling in Quebec. Nevertheless, there is hope for the future!
Despite almost three years of the pandemic, young people in Quebec do not seem discouraged by careers in the health field. At least that is what Opération Avenir reveals, an annual publication created by Septembre éditeur which offers free resources to secondary school workers.
In the top10 of the professions in which interest has grown the most among young people in Quebec are the nursing and pharmacist professions. These take first and second place on the list. Then, in ninth and tenth place, we find the professions of general practitioner and ambulance driver.
An influenced interest by the news?
“Is this strong interest a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and the major role these professions have played in responding to it?”, asks Olivier Schmouker, deputy publisher of Septembre publisher and coordinator of Opération Avenir. It is quite possible.
Conversely, other trades have lost popularity among 15 to 22-year-olds. Police and teachers have experienced the greatest drop in interest. It must be said that these professions have “experienced a difficult year in the media, which could explain the decline in popularity”, suggests Camille Benoît, advisor at Exponentiel conseil.
