Zach Zoya, Magi Merlin and Skiifall among Gala Dynasty winners
Rapper Zach Zoya won the award for English-speaking musical artist of the year at the culture evening of the Gala Dynasty.
Rap shone among the musical winners of the evening devoted to culture at the Gala Dynastie, which took place on Saturday evening at the Théâtre Maisonneuve at Place des Arts. Comedian Erich Preach was at the helm of the entertainment.
The Gala Dynastie, which highlights the talent of black communities in Quebec, had already rewarded media personalities last Thursday during a more modest evening held at the Salon Urbain de la Place des Arts.
Rap in the spotlight
On the music side, the Dynasty Foundation, which gives its name to the gala, celebrated a few artists who make the rap planet vibrate in Quebec. Zach Zoya won the category of English-language music, Skiifall, that of the artist who has distinguished himself internationally, while rapper Magi Merlin was crowned musical revelation of the year.
< p>Rapper on the cusp of adolescence Jay Jay won Music Video of the Year for his song Bloc Boy.
Corneille et Wesli won the Francophone Music and World Music categories, respectively.
Wesli, who in 2019 received the Juno Award for Best World Music Album for Rapadou Kreyol, also offered a frenzied performance, as did Aiza, King Shadrock, Sunny Boisvert and DJ Mohtorious. It was Kim Richardson, surrounded by a gospel choir and the violinist Kayiri, who got the ball rolling.
Theatre, TV, dance… and Black Panther
As for acting on screen and on stage, Anna Beaupré Moulounda won the cinema/television prize. The actress seen in particular in Survive her children said that, for the black girl from Rouyn-Noranda who did not see herself on TV, “the dream of becoming an actress did not exist”.
The trophy for the theatrical component was awarded to comedian Lyndz Dantiste, who grew up in a low-rental housing — I'm not supposed to be there, on paper , t -he says.
Marie-Célie Agnant, whose novel La dowry de Sara has been republished in two languages, in French and in Creole, received the award for author of the year.

Comedy-wise, host Preach was thrilled to see his “ bro ” Mibenson Sylvain, against whom he competed in this same category, won the award for comedian of the year.
In addition to the thirteen statuettes presented, a tribute prize was awarded to Ethel Bruneau, a leading figure in tap dancing, now 86 years old, who came to collect her Doudou Boicel prize in a wheelchair. Nicknamed Miss Swing and the Queen of Tap Dance, the dancer and teacher helped promote culture while passing on a legacy to future generations, says the Dynasty Foundation.
The evening began with a short satirical footage inspired by the universe of the film Black Panther 2on the issue of cultural diversity on television in Quebec. King Preach had to bring back to their duties in the assembly some leading heads who were quite “purelainist” from the cultural milieu… from Quebkanda.
King Preach concludes the video with a fitting nod to the Gala Dynastie and a recent government advertisement: “A gang of Blacks who meet in the evening in a room, what do you call that? Quebec excellence! »
