Zellers will make a comeback through the Hudson's Bay Gate
A bit of nostalgia this morning! Zellers, the famous Canadian chain of big-box stores that disappeared from radar screens a decade ago, returns in 2023 as stores inside Hudson's Bay stores across Canada.
Created in 1931 in London, Ontario, Zellers stores enjoyed the peak of their popularity in the 1990s. In the retail world, they were the main competitor of the giant Walmart at the time. But the 2000s marked their decline, until they closed in 2013.
Many new stores
< p>But now in 2023, Zellers is reborn from its ashes. The locations of 25 stores, all within Hudson's Bay stores, were announced today. Of the lot, five will be in Quebec, including one in Montreal, at the Galeries d'Anjou. According to La Baie d’Hudson, the stores will occupy an area ranging from 740 sq.ft. to 930 sq.ft.
The other Quebec stores will be located at Place Rosemère in Rosemère, at Carrefour de l'Estrie in Sherbrooke, Promenades Gatineau in Gatineau, and at the Galeries de la Capitale in Quebec City.
“Customers will find a judicious selection of interior decoration items, toys, baby items, clothing and accessories. pet accessories, all offered in the iconic red and white decor of Zellers”, can we read in the press release from The Bay.
The stores will serve as a complement to the future e-commerce platform fully integrated from Zellers. The store and the website should be launched simultaneously on a date that has not yet been specified.
